The tribal transportation program works along side with the City of McGrath to ensure the roads maintain safe and usable conditions. During the summer months, MNVC’s brush cutting crew works to maintain the easements on the roads to maintain visibility and work on giving space to push snow during winter months. During the time which MNVC is clearing easements, the wood is collected and brought to a MNVC lot to be bucked and split to be distributed amongst the tribal elders.

MNVC has a MOA with the City of McGrath to reimburse yearly up to $36,000 for winter road maintenance. MNVC also pays for half of the materials, such as cutting edges and teeth for the grader, and other miscellaneous items. MNVC pays half the price to maintain the Noir Hill Road, which gives access to wood cutting trails. Noir Hill is about twelve miles up the road from downtown McGrath and is a popular road for locals to travel on, especially used to practice cultural lifestyles.

Transportation has purchased a transit van that follows a weekly scheduled route for any community members to use as needed, at no cost to them. For those who wish to use the transportation service you can call MNVC at 907-524-3024. The transportation van goes out about ten hours a week and if people would like to schedule the transit van for events, please call the office a minimum of a week in advance.

And we are looking for two tribal members to join as committee members, please contact MNVC by phone 907-524-3024, or email.
