The Environmental Committee is working towards sustainable practices to preserve the tribe and community. Our vision is to encourage and protect a healthy community for current and future generations. We partner with the City of McGrath on many issues including the dump and recycle system in McGrath, as well as proper disposal of hazardous items. We have utilized our IGAP grant funds to assist in purchasing materials needed to create a new burn box to help keep the environment in the area cleaner.

Annually, we host Green-Up Clean-Up, which always has a spectacular turn out of community members who help pick up debris and liter throughout the whole village in an effort to keep our community beautiful. IGAP also removes white goods from our community and sometimes partners with nearby villages to remove their white goods and other miscellaneous items. The Village of McGrath believes it is important to have the ability to recycle materials appropriately. We are able to appropriately store and recycle certain everyday materials not safe for the burn box or environment. We have the tools to do a good amount of in-house recycling. See Trash and Recycling page for more details.

Meetings

The Environmental Committee meets with the ETIPPS group who works with the City of McGrath. Some major focuses are on self sustainable energy sources and lowering the cost of fuel and electric use. They also meet separately for MNVC’s in-house projects.

Dates of meetings vary, please contact MNVC with any questions.

And we are looking for 2 tribal members to join as committee members please contact MNVC by phone 907-524-3024, or email
